LEVEL 1: DETAILS & DESCRIPTION

From “Fight of Flight” to “Rest and Digest” – Touch Therapy techniques for working with trauma.

Modern life can be extremely stressful, challenging and demanding.
This affects our health, our well-being and our state of mind. We may feel stress and anxiety manifestations in various ways:

  • through aches and pains
  • difficulty sleeping a meaningful night’s sleep
  • troubles with our digestive system
  • being anxious and worried
  • fatigue and depleted resources

Stress, anxiety and trauma may affect our relationships with family and friends, our work environment and our health and immune system, as we struggle to survive and endure the tests that life presents us and recycle and re-source the energy of trauma.

Meet the psoas and vagus. Our physical tools for living in the 21st century.

Scientists and medical professionals call stress one of the silent killers of our times. Finding ways to deal with and contain the challenges of modern living is becoming ever more important in our quest to improve our health and our well-being.

In this workshop we will learn and understand the physical manifestation of trauma, we will meet the Psoas (muscle of the soul) and Vagus (nerve of well-being), experiment with connective tissue touch therapies and explore various ways and options of applying traditional Thai massage, Shiatsu and other techniques to work with these sometimes-un-tapped gifts that we have in our bodies. We will learn how to relax and release the Psoas and improve its range of movement, how to stimulate the Vagus nerve and work on its tonal elasticity. We will Dance, practice self-care, Qi-Gong, have hands-on practice session and hone our massage tools to help our clients to move from “Fight or Flight” to “Rest and Digest.”

TRAINING DESCRIPTION
In this course, you will learn how to take your Thai Bodywork to another level – onto the massage table! Thai Bodywork is typically offered on the floor on a padded futon. In this course, you will learn how to effectively and gracefully offer Thai Bodywork on a massage table. For LMTs, you will learn how to weave Thai bodywork skills into your sports and relaxation massages to take them up a level and reinvigorate your approach to how you treat your clients. Further, offering Thai Bodywork on the massage table can be an excellent way to manage your own physical well being, as it allows you to use your own body differently, whether you are a traditional Thai Bodyworker or an LMT.

Being skilled in offering Thai Bodywork on the table also allows you to work in spaces where a Thai floor futon might not fit, such as in shared offices where there is already a massage table in place, or in outcall situations where you are working in your client’s home. It is also an excellent way to offer Thai Bodywork and/or clothed hybrid bodywork at public events, such as athletic competitions or fundraisers.

Topics covered will include learning how to choose an effective table height, how to effortlessly move on and off the table, how to work on the table alongside your client, and ways to weave these methods in with the bodywork you already offer. You will learn a full treatment sequence that uses a variety of positions.

This course is excellent for both Thai Bodywork therapists and LMTs, as we will cover a wide variety of topics based on the professional makeup of the student group.

Jenn, the teacher for this course, has a long history of teaching Thai on the table, and also uses it on a regular basis in her work with clients. She’s excited to share her enthusiasm for it with you!

What to bring:
massage table
• sheets

TRAINING DESCRIPTION
This specialized 1-day workshop deals with important aspects of traditional nuad boran that are often neglected in other programs of study. We practice techniques to use bodyweight effectively, to correct bad habits, and to work with good body mechanics and breath coordination. We learn to avoid injuring the hands, wrists and back; how to soften or intensify techniques without strain or hyper-extension; how to improve flow from one body position to another; and ways to support clients during treatments.

We practice synchronized and oppositional breathing patterns, and we discuss their relevance and application to the most common Thai massage moves. We work in supine, prone, side and sitting positions, and we practice on others and refine our own techniques and sequences based on sustainable concepts. Finally, we discuss and practice helpful techniques for preparation and energy protection before a Thai session, and cleansing and detox techniques after a difficult session. Specialized visualizations and pranayama exercises are also practiced.

This is a one-of-a-kind workshop, specially designed for students and practitioners of Thai massage, bodywork, and movement therapy. Previous experience in Thai massage or bodywork is required. This course is approved for CEUs by NCBTMB and THAI. Certificates are awarded at the end of the workshop.

What to bring:

• sheets
• pillow
• any other props you like to use
